Ben Ali out, Corbu attacks Unesco

Villa Baizeau, Carthage © FLC/ADAGP

It's time for good news in Tunisia. Ben Ali to the mat, therefore we can now inventory collateral victories of revolution. Results are quite positive for Architecture: the Villa Baizeau designed by Le Corbusier in 1928 in Carthage finds its freedom. Settled on the presidential palace's property, it was a political prisoner of the dictator. Now released, it could take part in the application of registration on the World Heritage List of Unesco of the architectural work of Le Corbusier, as 19 other international achievements of the architect. However, does the file already rejected once in June 2009 by the World Heritage Committee is ready to include new works?
Compiled by France, Germany, Argentina, Belgium, Japan and Switzerland thanks to the Fondation Le Corbusier, the case already dropped from 22 to 19 achievements after Committee comments. However, this does not stop States its belonging to point out that this list may be subjected to additional requests for works, which for various reasons, were not included into the file. Then does the villa Baizeau have its chances? Anyway, according to the newspaper Liberation, Ezzeddine Beschaouch, new Tunisian Minister of Culture, regrets that fear of the old power has been a significant obstacle to its registration.

Why a blog about architecture ?

You will find here:
Gossips about architecture... The ones catching my attention and the ones I wanted to share. There are headlines, descriptions of buildings, portraits of architects, events not to miss, or reports of those you missed.
Its really bit of everything, but mostly what I like !
Because architecture buzzes, we are speaking and hearing about, therefore what about writing about it ?

You will not find here:

I do not know yet, we will see later if there will be any limits !

Why a blog ?

Because if you are a young architect who wants to talk about architecture, there are several options:

Option 1

We need a well balanced mix of other architects, a bar, some beer and a lot of noise.
The only problem is that indeed alcohol does not really help, as in the end we always get confused with our own arguments ("You've seen Richard Nouvel's last blob ?"), speak up loudly and strongly argue on a universal truth ("As far as I am concerned, I think that the most important plan is the ground floor ! "). Anyway, we go to bed voiceless with the feeling of a great debate, but we wake up with... a bit of a shame though.

Option 2
We need other architects, a stage, a PowerPoint and a long, very long text to read.
The only problem is that today, if you are not more than 50 years old and you do not wear a black linen suit crinkled, a white shirt and a red scarf, giving lectures seems a bit complicated : What could you say to all those nerds ?

Option 3

You should take your most beautiful pen and then write, write, write to fill one of our beautiful architectural review.
The only problem is that in those places, your are not really the leader, as you are not (yet) the chief editor... Therefore, sometimes your ego gets hurt...

Option 4

You need a computer keyboard and an internet connection.
The only problem is that... Actually, there is not a problem because being the chief editor, the copy editor and the fact that you don't have to pay freelancers, leave you free to write about what you want (avoiding any confusion though).

TO LISTEN :
As per the title, we are talking here about architecture but also about "sounds", therefore, please let me, dearest readers, offer you a musical interlude for each article posted on my blog. This is a song or an album linked (or not though, because I can do anything I want) with the subject above.
